Strongest world economy

Besides China, what other countries do you think will fair better than the US economically?

Contrary to popular belief, I still think the US has a fair chance of pulling through this. Brazil is at least a consideration for a growing economic power, likewise India, based on population alone.

Iraq should do well. They have all that oil.. and we are paying for all the reconstruction.

Russia is doing OK from an equities standpoint because they have a lot of energy companies, but I don't think their overall economy is going to be good anytime soon - still too much leftover authoritarian instincts and laws from the Soviet days.

The only possible way that the U.S. can pull out of the fiat death spiral it's in is if our administration, whether this one or ones that follow, can keep convincing other countries or other investors to keep lending us money. Nobody wants worthless paper, and that's all the U.S. government can offer other than selling off all of the assets we have left (if any). The only way our economy will ever recover is if investors/lenders somehow gain new confidence in the strength of both the dollar and our economy's overall trajectory. Pretty soon, all the townspeople will stop giving quarters to the town drunk. And we're the town drunk.

National debts of countries notwithstanding, I thought this chart showing foreign reserves and gold ownership per capita to be, um...interesting. The United States ranks 118th:
